Peace Through Strength
Providing for the common defense is one of the very few duties specifically assigned to the Federal government by the U.S. Constitution. Our Founding Fathers knew that one organized defense, using the resources of all the states, would be the most effective means of defense. The alternative, individual states defending themselves without an agreed upon plan, would be chaotic and ineffective. For these reasons I support adequate funding of the military and all activities that support the military.
Adequate defense funding includes the research and development of technologies that give our military every possible advantage on the battlefield. A ten year technological advantage wins wars and saves lives. A twenty year technological advantage has provided security like mankind has never before enjoyed. America’s technological advantages on the battlefield are responsible for the relative security we’ve enjoyed over the last several decades. However, this technological advantage exists only because America has been dedicated to constantly developing new technologies that give an overwhelming battlefield advantage to our soldiers. This is not cheap, but money spent on defense buys security that would otherwise cost us the blood of our young men and women. We must remember this when deciding how much we are willing to spend on defense.
