Issue Statements
My core philosophy about government is summed up on the page “States Rights”. There are few, but critical duties reserved for the Federal government including providing for a strong national defense, preserving the right to keep and bear arms, and the right to free speech and assembly. Unfortunately, there are several issues the Federal government has involved itself in that has lead to more problems than it has solved: the folly of the bailouts being a prime example. Keep checking back here for more issue statements in the days to come. For now the following issues are addressed by following these links…
Abortion
I’m strongly Pro Life. “Life” is the first “unalienable right” mentioned in the Declaration of independence (“life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”). The government has an absolute duty to protect life. Several years ago I wrote anti-abortion legislation at the request of a California State Senator. She introduced it, but the AMA killed it in committee. I’ve also done pro-bono work for Life Legal Defense Foundation for several years, defending abortion protestors from criminal prosecutions. Abortion protestors are often harassed and arrested on trumped-up charges like disturbing the peace, trespassing (on public sidewalks), or unlawful assembly. LLDF is a network of attorneys that defends such protestors for free. As your congressman, I will continue to work towards passing legislation that follows the Constitution which includes protecting life.
